In Grow With the FLOW, we are working with a local tree nursery in Weinland Park through the organization FLOW. Last fall, we added two more raised beds, thus doubling their production. The tree nursery does not have its own source of water or electricity, so we are developing a sustainable rainwater collection system with a manual-powered pump used to water the saplings. When we began this project, they originally had a rainwater collection system set up, but it was not catching any water. Over the spring, we replaced part of the system’s gutter downspout, and it has been successfully collecting water since. We’re currently working on developing a manual water pump that is powered by the user riding a bicycle.
